Silk embroidery threads, [ca. 1900-ca. 1949].

Consists of packets of wash silk skeins for embroidery made and marketed by several firms; a variety of colors and textures are represented. Grecian silk floss and Richtext Rope from the Richardson Silk Co. is accompanied by washing instructions and lessons in design. Other packets bear labels with such names as Rope Silk Skeins, Wash Twist, and Filo Silk from the Belding Bros.; Collingbourne's Boil-Proof Rope; J.P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Boilfast Embroidery Threads; and Royal Society threads. Washable silks made by M. Hemingways & Sons were mounted on boards bearing the name J.N. Adams & Co., Notion Dept., Buffalo, N.Y. Finally, the Bainard and Armstrong Co. sold samples of 300 different shades of "asiatic dye" wash silks for 10 cents.
